    Bridger Zadina on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

    2012 - 01.07

Bridger Zadina on Thursday’s episode of ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Bridger Zadina was back on prime time TV on Thursday night as the victim of a car accident on the ABC medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy.” The young actor, locally grown-turned-Los Angeles resident, is first seen bumped up and horizontal on a deserted road. His family is part of a car accident involving an ambulance, a baby that needs an organ transplant, and a bad storm. Zadina’s character, Michael, makes it to the ER, thanks to the multitasking abilities of doctors Meredith Grey and Alex Karev. His character’s mom, dad and grandma don’t fare as well. Although the sister who gets it in the eyeball with a hefty shard of glass will probably live to tell the tale.

Zadina has had a few of these gigs, including “Law & Order: SVU,” “CSI: NY” and “Criminal Minds.” He also had a major role in the indie flick “Terri,” a cast that included John C. Reilly. In it, Zadina played an outcast misfit who compulsively yanks hair out of his head. “Terri” played at Zinema 2 in the latter half of 2011 and Zadina attended the opening and did a Q&A.

Jessica Lange in “American Horror Story”

Our neighbor Jessica Lange has scared up a regular gig on the new FX series “American Horror Story,” a ghostly hour-long TV show about the perils of living in a haunted house in Los Angeles. EW.com reports the show drew 3.2 million viewings in its debut airing.

The show is from the creators of “Glee” and “Nip/Tuck,” though it has more in common with the latter, promising not so much plot twists as plot jerks and cinematic tricks ala “The Shining.” (Let me remind you that the character Matt McNamara became a mime in the final season of “Nip/Tuck,” and that was by far the most normal thing he ever did on that show.)

The premise is that the Harmon family has moved across the country to start over after Ben Harmon is caught with another woman while his wife Vivienne (Connie Britton of “Friday Night Lights”) is still skull-deep in emotional recovery from a miscarriage. LA it is. They get a pretty sweet deal on a mansion — on the market following the murder-suicide of its previous owners. Cue the paranormal.

As for Lange, she plays a Southern lady, the kind that waits until noon to top off a tumbler. And she’s got the crazy, not unlike an aging heroine in a play by Tennessee Williams. And she knows more than she is letting on, not unlike an heroine in an episode of “Twin Peaks.”

And she’s getting good chatter from it after the first episode, from landing in the Cheers! column of TV Guide to a post on Bloomberg.com:

… A fabulously entertaining Jessica Lange saunters through as the loony Southern belle of a neighbor. With her Tippi Hedren hairdo and floral print silks, Lange seems to have escaped from one of those Grand Guignol 1960s flicks that brought Golden Age actresses back to the screen.

Lange’s politically incorrect jibes and malicious threats are delivered with a syrupy lilt. Her word for a girl with Down syndrome probably hasn’t been uttered on TV in decades, and is as startling as any of the butchery going on in the basement.

“American Horror Story” airs at 9 p.m. on Wednesdays on FX. Lange, of course, is from Cloquet.
